What it does: Naltrexone, blocks the opiate receptors in the brain, making it hard to feel the “high” produced from narcotics. Since Naltrexone implants are inserted under the patient's skin, doses can not be forgotten or purposely skipped, which makes it virtually impossible to relapse if treatment is maintained.
Summary of Treatment: Patients come into our office and have a procedure preformed in which a special slow-release form of Naltrexone is placed under the patient's skin. Implants should be repeated every eight weeks.
