Patient Information

Day of Procedure

Knowing what to expect on the day of your procedure can help ease any anxiety and ensure everything goes smoothly. Here is a guide to help you prepare.

Request an Appointment

Before Your Procedure

Proper preparation helps ensure a safe and successful procedure. Please review the following guidelines carefully.

Confirm Your Appointment

You will receive a reminder message prior to your procedure date. Please confirm your appointment at least 24 hours in advance with any questions. If you need to reschedule, contact our office as soon as possible so we can accommodate other patients waiting for an opening.

Medication Instructions

Your physician will provide specific instructions regarding medications. Blood thinners such as Coumadin, Plavix, Eliquis, or Xarelto may need to be stopped several days before your procedure. Always follow your physician's specific guidance.

Eating & Drinking

If your procedure involves sedation, do not eat or drink anything for six hours prior to your appointment time. For procedures without sedation, you may eat a light meal beforehand. Your care team will provide specific fasting instructions when your procedure is scheduled.

What to Wear

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that is easy to remove. Avoid jewelry, watches, and metal accessories. You may be asked to change into a gown depending on the procedure location.

Arrange a Ride

If your procedure involves any level of sedation, you must have a responsible adult drive you home. You will not be permitted to drive yourself after sedation. Your driver should plan to remain at the facility during your procedure.

Insurance & Authorization

Our office handles prior authorizations, but please verify that your insurance information is current. Bring your insurance card and a valid photo ID. If you have questions about your financial responsibility, contact our billing team before your procedure date.

During Your Procedure

Our team is focused on your comfort and safety from start to finish. Here is what you can expect while you are in our care.

Check-In & Preparation

Please arrive 15 to 20 minutes before your scheduled procedure time. You will check in at the front desk, complete any remaining paperwork, and be escorted to the procedure area where our medical staff will review your medical history and take your vital signs.

Pre-Procedure Preparation

An IV may be started if sedation is planned. Your skin will be cleaned and sterilized at the procedure site. Your physician will review the procedure with you, answer any last-minute questions, and confirm the treatment plan.

Imaging-Guided Precision

Most procedures are performed using fluoroscopy (real-time X-ray) or ultrasound guidance to ensure precise needle placement. This imaging technology allows your physician to direct the treatment to the exact anatomic location for optimal results and added safety.

Comfort & Safety

Our staff will monitor you throughout the entire procedure. Local anesthesia is used to numb the treatment area and minimize discomfort. When appropriate, IV sedation is available to help increase comfort. You will be able to communicate with your care team at all times.

Procedure Duration

Most interventional pain procedures take between 15 and 45 minutes to complete, depending on the type and complexity. Your physician will give you a more specific time estimate when your procedure is scheduled.

After Your Procedure

Recovery begins as soon as your procedure is complete. Follow these guidelines to support the best possible outcome.

Recovery Period

After your procedure, you will be assisted to our recovery area where you will be monitored for 15 to 30 minutes. Our medical staff will check your vital signs, ensure you are comfortable, and watch for any immediate reactions.

Immediate Aftercare

You may experience temporary numbness, mild soreness, or slight swelling at the injection site. This is normal. Ice packs can be applied for comfort. If steroid was used, you may experience facial flushing for a brief period. Your physician will let you know whether these symptoms are expected for your specific procedure.

Post-Procedure Instructions

Before you leave, you will receive detailed written instructions covering activity restrictions, medication guidance, wound care if applicable, and warning signs that would require you to contact us. Please review these instructions carefully and keep them for reference.

Activity & Rest

Depending upon the procedure, some patients may experience numbness or weakness from the local anesthesia. Avoid strenuous activity, heavy lifting, and prolonged sitting or standing for the first several hours. Your physician will provide specific guidance based on the type of procedure performed.

When to Expect Results

Depending on the procedure, you may feel relief immediately or it may take several days to weeks for the full benefit to take effect. Steroid injections, for example, often take 3 to 7 days to reach maximum effectiveness. Your physician will set realistic expectations during your appointment.

Follow-Up Appointment

A follow-up visit will be scheduled to evaluate how you responded to the procedure and determine next steps. This is an important part of your treatment plan, so please keep your follow-up appointment even if you are feeling better.
