Condition

Sciatica

Sciatica refers to pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which branches from the lower back through the hips and buttocks and down each leg. It typically affects only one side of the body and occurs when the sciatic nerve becomes compressed, most commonly by a herniated disc, bone spur, or narrowing of the spine (spinal stenosis). The pain can vary from a mild ache to a sharp, burning sensation or excruciating discomfort. Some patients describe it as a jolt or electric shock. It can be worsened by prolonged sitting, coughing, or sneezing. While most cases resolve with conservative treatment, severe sciatica that causes progressive weakness or bladder changes requires prompt medical attention. At Spinal Interventions, we use imaging-guided procedures to precisely target the source of sciatic nerve compression, providing effective relief through epidural steroid injections, selective nerve root blocks, and other minimally invasive treatments.
